"Why I Still Keep Stuffed Animals"

Rant Of The Day Blog Article October 1st 2025 Written By Jenn D Real.

People often ask why I have such a big collection of stuffed animals. Some smile, some tease, some genuinely wonder. The answer traces back to one of the few moments of kindness I remember from my mother.

I was a small child, crying over something I can’t even recall now. My mother asked me for my favorite stuffed animal. When I handed it over, she hugged it quickly, firmly, like she was sealing something invisible into the fabric. Then she gave it back.

“There,” she told me, “I refilled it. I filled it with love. When you need it again, hug her. The love will still be there. And when you’re happy, hug her too—refill her, so she never runs out.”

That single moment taught me that objects can become vessels for memory, love, and survival. It’s why I hold onto my stuffed animals. They are more than toys—they are reminders of the way love can be stored and carried forward, even when people themselves cannot always stay.

My collection is not about clinging to childhood—it’s about honoring that idea: that tenderness, once given, can endure. Threadbare ears, loose stitches, glass eyes scuffed by time—they all hold stories, and they all hold love.

So when people see shelves full of stuffed creatures and wonder “why?”—this is why. They aren’t just plush. They’re reservoirs of love, stitched with memory, proof that even the smallest kindness can last a lifetime.

Just about every stuffed animal in my collection was a gift. (I try to not buy my own stuffed animals or my collection would over take me, lol) And as a gift they are also a piece of the person who gifted it to me. Little reminders that I am loved. Reminders that have helped me through some dark days.

So yeah I am a grown woman who still has her favorite stuffed animals and I am okay with that. Now if I haven't correctly answered the question leave a comment and I will respond. Otherwise what are some ways you help yourself when you are going through dark days?
